Enteric and Invasive Disease Laboratory

  • Goal:
    • To provide scientific information on tropical diseases of public health concern.
  • Core Mandates:
    • Conduct laboratory-based surveillance on tropical diseases of public health concern
    • Support epidemic/outbreak investigation,
    • Provide reference laboratory services  for detection of tropical diseases of public health concern,
    • Develop guideline on surveillance and laboratory services,
    • Conduct basic and applied research,
    • Conduct training of health professionals on tropical disease diagnosis and bio-safety.

 

Food and Nutrition Laboratory

  • Goal:
    • To provide scientific information related to foodborne illness and nutrition problem in the country.
  • Core Mandates:
    • Conduct surveillance on food safety,
    • Reference  laboratory services related to food testing,
    • Support foodborne outbreak investigation,
    • Conduct basic and applied research.

 

Immuno-Serology Laboratory

  • Goal:
    • Provide scientific information on diseases/syndromes of public health concern.
  • Core Mandates:
    • Conduct laboratory-based surveillance on public health important diseases/syndromes,
    • Support pandemic/epidemic/outbreak investigation,
    • Provide reference laboratory services for serological detection of pathogens and disease/syndromes of public health concern
    • Responsible for laboratory services and quality assessment for serological tests.
    • Develop/review guideline on surveillance and quality assessment,
    • Evaluation of serological test kits for the purpose of registration in the country,
    • Organizer for Serology/TTI- NEQAS activity,
    • Conduct basic and applied research,
    • Conduct training of health professionals on serodiagnosis and bio-safety.

 

National Drug Testing Laboratory

  • Goal:
    • To ensure that medicinal products are of good quality, effective and safe for their intended use.
  • Core Mandates:
    • Verification of the quality of medicinal products,
    • Develop guideline on surveillance and laboratory services.

 

National Tuberculosis Reference Laboratory

  • Goal:
    • To provide scientific information on tuberculosis burden and support quality diagnostic services.
  • Core Mandates:
    • Conduct quality assessment of AFB microscopy and new diagnostic technology introduced,
    • Conduct TB drug resistance surveillance and research,
    • Provide reference services on drug susceptibility testing for the first line and second line TB drugs,
    • Develop/review guidelines on TB laboratory diagnosis and EQAS,
    • Conduct in-service training on the diagnosis of tuberculosis,
    • Introduction of new diagnostic technology/tools for detection of TB in collaboration with NTCP.

 

National Water Reference Laboratory

  • Goal:
    • To provide complete scientific evidence on the safety of drinking water to protect consumer health.
  • Core Mandates:
    • Carry out Drinking Water Quality Surveillance in the country,
    • Continuously strengthen the capacity for monitoring the drinking water quality,
    • Assess and certify the technical competency of drinking water quality testing laboratories,
    • Establish and manage centralized drinking water quality database,
    • Develop guideline on water quality surveillance and laboratory services,
    • Support outbreak investigations related to the water-borne disease.

 

Virology and Molecular Laboratory

  • Goal:
    • Provide scientific information on emerging pathogens that have epidemic potential and high public health consequences.
  • Core Mandates:
    • Conduct laboratory-based  surveillance on public health important   pathogens and diseases,
    • Support  pandemic/epidemic/outbreak investigation,
    • Provide reference laboratory services  for detection of pathogens of public health concern,
    • Develop and review guideline on surveillance and laboratory services,
    • Conduct laboratory services quality assessment,
    • Conduct basic and applied research,
    • Conduct training of health professionals on viral diagnosis and bio-safety.

 

National Disease Surveillance and Epidemiology Unit

  • Goal:
    • Generate epidemiology information on health and diseases and provide timely alerts and response to outbreaks/epidemics/pandemic.
  • Core Mandates:
    • Conducting disease  surveillance,
    • Conduct and coordinate  outbreak investigation,
    • Conduct basic and applied research,
    • Develop capacity of health professionals in field epidemiology and research.

 

Information and Communication Technology Unit

  • Goal:
    • To provide reliable data collection and management platform using information technology.
  • Core Mandates:
    • Develop information technology-based disease surveillance systems,
    • Develop information technology-based information dissemination,
    • Develop guideline and modules on information technology-based surveillance,
    • Training of health professionals on information technology surveillance and reporting,
    • Update IT application, software and hardware.
